And just like that, Christmas is over and the New Year is just around the corner. Isn't it crazy how quickly time flies?
Before we make concrete plans for 2023, we want to review the year and use this newsletter to give you a brief overview of what has happened to us in the last few months.
As I was writing it, the first thing that struck me was how incredible it all was and still is.

We would also like to report again today about a new partner - this time we are going to Mönchengladbach and the surrounding area, to EDEKA Endt, a multi-branch store on the beautiful Lower Rhine. You have been able to find all of our products there since the beginning of December.

We also recommend our recipe of the month, winter apple cinnamon overnight oats with almond Britta granola.

Annual review - that was our 2022

At the end of 2021, Lena and I had already decided that we wanted to expand and move into an old bakery in Kleve. The first renovation work was already being planned at the time and should be completed by spring.

At the same time, the year began with an exciting and challenging major order (at least that's how we felt at the time). Well over 1000 boxes from the online food retailer Foodist were to be filled with our Mandel Britta. Since there were precise delivery regulations and delivery deadlines, precise planning was the be-all and end-all here - so for the first time we produced a really large amount of muesli, packaged it and sent it on a pallet via a freight forwarder. In the end everything worked out wonderfully and we learned a lot from it - so the previous excitement was completely in vain. ;-)

So it was clear to us that we wanted to move our Gocher cellar production to the new Klever bakery by summer at the latest. The renovation work was progressing well, everything was gradually taking shape and becoming more tangible.
Lena also decided to give up her job as a pastry chef and start working full-time at Barni & Wilma in July.
There were numerous planning measures on the agenda in the first half of the year. In addition to financial planning, we also took care of the complete equipment of our production facility. Included is the heart of the bakery - the oven. For this purpose, we were guests in Hilden at the Wachtel company and test-roasted our muesli there.
Furthermore, paperwork, applications and forms to fill out were on the agenda and very “nerve-wracking”, to put it positively. But somehow we managed that too.

After our move to the new bakery was successfully completed and the first productions started in Kleve, there was a small inauguration party at the end of the summer with our hard-working helpers, families and friendly customers. So we were able to reflect on the first half of the year, which was certainly exciting and challenging, in peace and quiet and also show our gratitude to those who supported us so well and without whom this step would not have been possible.

In addition, Barni & Wilma has no longer been a one-woman show since the summer, which is really great. Lena and I complement each other perfectly in our areas of responsibility - she primarily takes care of production and order processing and I take care of sales, marketing, administration, IT, etc.
We became very aware of this great, new beginning at our little celebration.

Autumn had just begun and the Christmas business was already in full swing. We have also brought two new granolas onto the market - the time-limited Mandel Britta Winter Edition, which is a huge hit with you, and the Mandel Britta Niederrhein Fräulein Edition, which comes from a collaboration with Niederrhein Tourismus and blogger Nicole Marks was created.

This year we also exhibited at the Krefeld Christmas market for a whole week, were part of van Nahmen's Advent bazaar in Hamminkeln and, just before Christmas, we were a short-term guest at the 'Claus' trend market in Mönchengladbach.

Of course, so much more happened this year - thanks to the Corona easing, we were finally able to hold granola tastings at various locations (including the Gocher after-work market in the summer) and engage in personal exchanges with many great customers and interested parties.
We have also been able to gain 17 new EDEKA stores here in the region, as well as two REWE stores and 17 new retailers (cafés, hotels and retailers). Even another Swiss customer is there.

We are really, really grateful that the year developed this way despite the corona pandemic, war in Ukraine and the energy crisis.
We are still as happy as little children about every single order and feel a lot of joy and happiness to be able to do what we love!
